How many service pages does a small business need?

One page for each service you actively want to sell, and none for the rest. A single page listing twelve services ranks and gets cited for none of them, because it answers no question completely.

Why the combined page fails

A page covering everything is specific about nothing. Search engines cannot tell which query it should answer, and a model looking for a passage about water heater replacement finds a bullet point.

This is the most common structural problem on small business sites and one of the easiest to fix.

What earns its own page

A service earns a page if someone searches for it by name, if you want more of that work, and if you can write 400 useful words about it - what it costs, how long it takes, what goes wrong, what the customer should have ready.

If you cannot write 400 honest words, it belongs as a section, not a page.

Order of build

Highest margin first, not highest volume. Then whatever your competitors are being named for and you are not - your prompt tests will tell you which.

Keep them connected

Link each service page to the related ones and back to the main services page. Internal links tell systems how your site is organized and help every page individually.

The short version

  • One page per service you want to sell
  • If you cannot write 400 honest words, it is a section not a page
  • Build highest margin first
  • Link service pages to each other

Related questions

Isn't this a lot of pages?

Six to twelve for most local businesses. That is manageable and it is where the citations come from.

What about services I offer rarely?

List them on the main services page without a dedicated URL.

Will thin service pages hurt me?

Yes. Fewer, fuller pages is always the safer choice.
