How often should you post on your Google Business Profile?

Weekly is a sensible cadence. Posts do not directly move rankings in any measurable way, but they keep your profile visibly active, occupy space in your listing, and give assistants and customers fresher material. Four a month is enough; daily is not worth the effort.

What posts actually do

They appear in your profile and sometimes in search results. They demonstrate the business is trading, which matters to a customer deciding between you and a listing that last updated in 2023. Direct ranking effect is weak to nonexistent.

What to post about

Completed jobs with a photo and one line about what was involved. Seasonal warnings - frozen pipes, pre-summer AC checks. Offers with a real expiry. Holiday hours. Answers to questions you get on the phone every week.

What not to post

Generic motivational content, stock photography, anything you would post on Instagram for engagement. This surface is read by people about to call someone.

Photos matter more than text

A photo from an actual job outperforms a written post. Take pictures on site, upload them monthly, and skip the stock library entirely.

The short version

  • Four posts a month is a good target
  • No reliable direct ranking effect
  • Real job photos beat written posts
  • Holiday hours are worth a post every time
