Why did Google change my business hours?
Google applies edits automatically from other sources, user suggestions and its own inference. Hours are the most commonly changed field. Nobody notifies you reliably, so profiles quietly drift wrong - and wrong hours now feed straight into AI answers about whether you are open.
Where the edits come from
Other listings of your business, data providers, users suggesting a change, and Google's own inference from popular times data. All of it can overwrite what you set.
Why it costs more than it used to
Wrong hours used to cost a walk-in. Now an assistant answering "who's open right now?" reads that field. If it says you closed at five, you are not in the answer, whatever your actual crew is doing.
Catching it
Check the profile weekly, or use a tool that alerts on changes. Look at hours, phone, category and business name specifically - those are the four that get altered.
Set special hours ahead of every holiday. Unset special hours are inferred, usually wrongly.
Reverting
Edit the field back and it usually sticks. If the same change keeps returning, the source is another listing of your business somewhere else - find and correct it, or the loop continues.
The short version
- Hours, phone, category and name are the fields that get edited
- Notifications are unreliable - check weekly
- Set special hours before every holiday
- A recurring edit means a bad source elsewhere
